Similar in color to ‘Always Afternoon’, this improved cultivar has proven to be more cold hardy and thus is a better choice for northern climates. 

The flower form is also improved; each lovely blossom is of consistently rounded form and has thicker, more durable petals than its parent.  The sunfast, mauve pink, 5 inch flowers have a prominent wine purple eye, yellow-green throat, and ruffled tepals.  Three-way branched scapes carry 20 or more buds apiece in early midseason and then again later in the season. 

Attractive blue-green foliage complements the flowers nicely.  ‘Return a Smile’ is a vigorous grower and rapidly multiplying cultivar.  Dormant tetraploid.

This is considered a "Designer" daylily, which means that it has been selected as highly performing plant with exceptional bloom performance, substantive, vibrantly colored flowers, complete winter hardiness in northern zones, and a vigorous habit.

Daylilies can survive many harsh conditions that other plants cannot including: polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, near pavement that is salted in winter, and under Black Walnut trees (not affected by juglone).
